
Indonesian Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice)
A sweet, savory Indonesian fried rice with kecap manis, shallots, chili, and crispy fried shallots on top. Southeast Asian comfort food.

Ingredients
- 4 cups Cooked Jasmine Rice
- ½ block Extra-firm Tofu
- 3 tbsp Kecap Manis
- 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 3 whole Shallots
- 4 cloves Garlic
- 1 whole Fresh Red Chili
- 1 ½ cups Shredded Cabbage
- 3 tbsp Vegetable Oil
- ½ whole English Cucumber
- 1 whole Tomatoes
- 1 whole Lime
Instructions
- Heat 2 tbsp vegetable oil in a wok over high heat. Fry half the shallot slices 2–3 minutes until dark and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towel.
- In the same wok, add tofu and cook 3 minutes until golden. Remove.
- Add remaining oil. Sauté remaining shallots and garlic 1 minute. Add chili and cabbage, stir-fry 2 minutes.
- Add cold rice. Break up clumps and stir-fry 3–4 minutes. Pour kecap manis and soy sauce over the rice. Toss until evenly coated and slightly caramelized.
- Return tofu. Toss once. Serve topped with crispy fried shallots, cucumber, tomato wedges, and lime.
