30 min

Ingredients

  • 1 block Extra-firm Tofu
  • ¾ tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 ½ tbsp Cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp Garlic Powder
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 ½ tbsp Maple Syrup
  • 1 ½ tsp Rice Vinegar
  • 1 ½ cloves Garlic
  • ¼ tsp Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1 ½ tsp Cornstarch
  • ¾ tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
  • 1 ½ tsp Toasted Sesame Oil
  • 1 ½ whole Green Onions
  • 1 ½ cups White Rice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (or oven to 425°F). Toss the pressed tofu cubes with olive oil until coated, then add the cornstarch and garlic powder and toss again until evenly coated.
  2. Arrange the tofu in a single layer in the air fryer basket and cook for 20 minutes, tossing halfway through, until golden and crispy. (If baking, spread on a sheet pan and bake for 25 minutes, flipping halfway.)
  3. While the tofu cooks, whisk together the soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, and 2 tbsp water in a small bowl. In a separate small bowl, mix the cornstarch slurry ingredients together.
  4. Pour the sauce into a large skillet over medium heat and simmer for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the cornstarch slurry and stir to combine. Simmer for 1 to 2 more minutes until the sauce thickens. Season with salt to taste.
  5. Add the crispy tofu to the skillet and stir until every piece is evenly coated in sauce. Remove from heat and stir in the sesame seeds and sesame oil.
  6. Serve immediately over cooked white rice topped with sliced scallions.
