30 min
Ingredients
- 1 block Extra-firm Tofu
- ¾ tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 ½ tbsp Cornstarch
- ¼ tsp Garlic Powder
- 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 ½ tbsp Maple Syrup
- 1 ½ tsp Rice Vinegar
- 1 ½ cloves Garlic
- ¼ tsp Red Pepper Flakes
- 1 ½ tsp Cornstarch
- ¾ tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
- 1 ½ tsp Toasted Sesame Oil
- 1 ½ whole Green Onions
- 1 ½ cups White Rice
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (or oven to 425°F). Toss the pressed tofu cubes with olive oil until coated, then add the cornstarch and garlic powder and toss again until evenly coated.
- Arrange the tofu in a single layer in the air fryer basket and cook for 20 minutes, tossing halfway through, until golden and crispy. (If baking, spread on a sheet pan and bake for 25 minutes, flipping halfway.)
- While the tofu cooks, whisk together the soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, and 2 tbsp water in a small bowl. In a separate small bowl, mix the cornstarch slurry ingredients together.
- Pour the sauce into a large skillet over medium heat and simmer for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the cornstarch slurry and stir to combine. Simmer for 1 to 2 more minutes until the sauce thickens. Season with salt to taste.
- Add the crispy tofu to the skillet and stir until every piece is evenly coated in sauce. Remove from heat and stir in the sesame seeds and sesame oil.
- Serve immediately over cooked white rice topped with sliced scallions.
